About the Opportunity

We’re partnering with a leading organisation operating within the data centre and mission-critical infrastructure sector to recruit an experienced Shift Technician. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for maintaining critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure within a 24/7 operational environment.

Working on a continental shift pattern, you’ll support the safe and reliable operation of mission-critical facilities through planned preventative maintenance, reactive engineering, incident response and change management activities. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in technically demanding environments where uptime, resilience and operational excellence are the highest priorities.

The Role

As Shift Technician, you’ll be responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of critical infrastructure systems across a live facility.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Supporting the operation and maintenance of UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, ATS, STS, chillers, CRAH units, AHUs, humidification systems and building controls.
  • Managing specialist contractors during planned maintenance and repair activities.
  • Performing electrical and mechanical isolations, earthing and reinstatement of plant equipment.
  • Reviewing and updating engineering drawings where required.
  • Supporting change management and incident response procedures.
  • Responding to alarms via the Building Management System (BMS), carrying out fault diagnosis, initiating repairs and escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Responding to customer requests and ensuring agreed service levels are maintained.
  • Performing reactive maintenance on building infrastructure and critical plant.
  • Producing and reviewing operational documentation including SOPs, MOPs and emergency procedures to support safe operations.

About You

We’re looking for an engineer with experience working within data centres, critical facilities, building services or other mission-critical environments.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A recognised Electrical or Mechanical qualification.
  • Experience maintaining critical building infrastructure.
  • Previous experience working within a live operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical building services.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high safety standards.
  • A flexible approach to working continental shift patterns.

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Data Centre operations.
  • LV Authorised Person (LVAP) or willingness to obtain accreditation.
  • Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Permit to Work systems and Risk Assessments.
  • Emergency power systems and UPS infrastructure.
  • Fire Marshal or First Aid qualifications.
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering within critical environments.
  • Security-cleared environments.
