About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a leading consultancy specialising in data centre and mission-critical infrastructure to recruit an experienced Electrical Design Engineer.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on the design and development of cutting-edge data centre projects, supporting enterprise, colocation and hyperscale clients across the UK and Europe. You’ll join a highly experienced engineering team responsible for delivering resilient, efficient and innovative electrical infrastructure solutions for some of the industry’s most technically demanding environments.
Working remotely or on a hybrid basis from Gatwick, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the full design lifecycle, from initial feasibility through to detailed design and technical support during construction and commissioning.
The Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the design and delivery of critical electrical infrastructure within live and new-build data centre projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing electrical designs across all project stages, from concept and feasibility through to detailed technical design.
- Designing mission-critical electrical infrastructure including HV/LV distribution, UPS systems, standby generators, switchgear, transformers and power distribution.
- Developing single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, cable calculations, load schedules and equipment layouts.
- Supporting multidisciplinary design teams to ensure coordinated engineering solutions.
- Producing technical specifications, reports and design documentation.
- Reviewing contractor and supplier technical submissions for compliance with project requirements.
- Supporting design risk reviews, value engineering exercises and technical workshops.
- Liaising with clients, contractors and specialist consultants throughout project delivery.
- Providing technical support during construction, commissioning and project handover.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant UK and international standards, client specifications and industry best practice.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates and design processes.
About You
We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with experience delivering projects within mission-critical or complex building services environments.
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience designing electrical systems for data centres, critical facilities, commercial buildings or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong understanding of critical electrical infrastructure and resilient power systems.
- Experience designing:
- HV & LV Distribution
- UPS Systems
- Standby Generators
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- Busbar Systems
- Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
- Earthing & Lightning Protection
- Good knowledge of electrical coordination, fault level studies and load calculations.
- Experience working alongside multidisciplinary MEP design teams.
- Strong understanding of electrical installation standards and building regulations.
- Excellent communication and technical report writing skills.
Technical Skills
Experience using one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- AutoCAD
- Revit MEP
- BIM 360
- Amtech / Trimble ProDesign
- ETAP
- Dialux
- Bluebeam
- Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of industry standards including:
- BS 7671
- BS EN 50600
- IEC Standards
- Uptime Institute Guidelines
- TIA-942
Qualifications
Ideally you’ll hold:
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
- Membership of IET, CIBSE or equivalent professional institution.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction design responsibilities.
